Chen's Chinese Super Buffet

Chen's Chinese Super Buffet Chinese restaurant

Overview

Walking into Chen's Chinese Super Buffet for the first time felt like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot that locals clearly rely on. Located at 1655 Southdale Dr, Lebanon, MO 65536, United States, this diner-style Chinese buffet has built a reputation around variety, consistency, and value, which is not easy to maintain in a buffet setting. Iโ€™ve eaten here multiple times over the years, usually during busy lunch hours, and the experience has been remarkably steady, which says a lot in the restaurant world.

The menu stretches across classic Chinese-American comfort dishes and a few surprises that rotate depending on the day. Youโ€™ll usually find staples like General Tsoโ€™s chicken, beef with broccoli, sweet and sour pork, lo mein, fried rice, and egg rolls, all refreshed frequently. One thing I noticed during a recent visit was how often staff checked the steam tables. That kind of process matters because, according to USDA food safety guidelines, hot buffet items should be kept above 140ยฐF to prevent bacterial growth. Watching the team actively replace trays rather than letting food sit too long adds a layer of trust you donโ€™t always get at buffets.

What sets this place apart isnโ€™t just quantity, but balance. The buffet also includes lighter options like stir-fried vegetables, soups, and simple steamed rice, which makes it easier to customize a meal. I once brought a friend who follows a low-sodium diet, and while buffets arenโ€™t perfect for that, she was able to put together a plate that worked for her by sticking to vegetables and grilled proteins. That flexibility is part of why families, seniors, and travelers seem equally comfortable dining here.

Reviews from regulars often mention cleanliness, and that lines up with my own experience. Tables are cleared quickly, floors stay tidy even during rush hours, and the dining area doesnโ€™t feel cramped. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, cleanliness consistently ranks among the top factors influencing repeat visits, and itโ€™s clear this restaurant takes that seriously. While no dining spot is immune to occasional off days, most feedback points to a dependable standard that keeps people coming back.

Another thing worth noting is how approachable the pricing feels. Buffets live or die by perceived value, and here the cost matches the experience. Youโ€™re not paying for luxury dรฉcor or experimental cuisine; youโ€™re paying for a wide selection, quick service, and the freedom to try a bit of everything. On one visit, I watched a family with kids navigate the buffet easily, with staff patiently helping and offering fresh plates. That kind of casual hospitality often gets overlooked but makes a big difference in real-world dining.

The location itself is convenient, especially for anyone passing through Lebanon or staying nearby. Being close to major roads makes it a practical stop for lunch or dinner without feeling like a tourist trap. Parking is straightforward, and the interior layout is intuitive, which matters more than people realize when youโ€™re hungry and juggling plates.

Itโ€™s fair to acknowledge that this isnโ€™t the place for ultra-authentic regional Chinese cuisine or an intimate date-night atmosphere. The focus is clearly on broad appeal and efficiency. Still, for what it aims to be, it succeeds. Food quality, safety practices, and customer flow are handled in a way that aligns with industry recommendations and everyday expectations.

Overall, this diner fills an important role in the local food scene. Itโ€™s the kind of place where you can eat quickly or linger, sample familiar favorites, and leave satisfied without overthinking the experience. For many residents and repeat visitors, that reliability is exactly what makes it worth returning to again and again.

Not bad. The waitress seemed like she wasn't having a very good day and didn't want to be there. Food was better than most buffets we've stopped at. It's a really good value! But be warned..... You get the good napkin wrapped around the utensils. After that you get the easy to rip and tear small can't even blow your nose with it napkin.

Easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. The menu has a lot of variety, the dining area is spacious, and parking is super easy. Great experience overall โ€” definitely coming back!

We've been coming here for years and absolutely love it! They've always been super friendly and the restaurant is always clean. Tonight, however, the kindness we were shown was beyond anything we could have expected. My daughter ate too much, way too much, and she decided to lay down in our booth while we finished and paid. One of the ladies came and offered her jacket to my daughter to cover up with in case she was cold. I am so grateful for the way they seem to truly care for their customers, and I can't wait to come back!

First time eating here. The buffet was better than expected. The variety of food was amazing. They even had frogs legs and crayfish, as well as a whole salmon fillet. The place was very clean. The staff was very attentive. The buffet even includes the sushi bar and hibachi. There's lots of room for seating. The restaurant is bigger than you think. And for dessert, you get to scoop your own ice cream from tubs of various flavors. Worth stopping by if you haven't already.

We love Chens! My family and I lived in Lebanon for a bit years ago, and our daughter almost wouldn't eat out anywhere else. We have returned to the area recently- feels so good to be back at a buffet that's consistent! Pricing is reasonable, quality of the food is always great, I know what to expect when I show up. The sushi is awesome- the candy cane roll is a delight. Also one of few places to do coconut chicken, and for that my daughter is forever grateful My only complaint is goofy and petty honestly, but they've had a tube light flickering in the section of the restaurant we love sitting at so I can't wait for the bulb to get replaced :)

Iโ€™ve been here twice now. The service was great. The food was real good and I loved the atmosphere. My only issues were that the salad bar does not have much to put on your lettuce. In fact, I enjoy a good salad but had lettuce with ranch on it as there wasnโ€™t many options. The ice cream is self serve with a scoop sitting in water. I watched another customer hack into their hand several times before grabbing the scoop. That turned me off from having ice cream. Otherwise, everything else was great and Iโ€™d probably go back again.
